Western American History. Author Gerald S. Snyder of National Geographic's Special Publications Division and his family retraced the route of the men--and one Indian woman, Sacagawea. They followed the trail of the expedition by car and towboat, by canoe and rubber raft, on foot and on horseback. They sweltered under a Missouri summer sun, shivered on the Pacific coast in winter---and celebrated a North Dakota Christmas with buffalo meat broiled over a blazing cottonwood-log fire.
Online Book Review:
Such an amazing family and adventure, as they take themselves on a boat following the trail of Lewis and Clark. I stumbled on this book years ago and have kept my eyes peeled for copies to give as gifts to other mid-westerners who live at or near the Missouri River and the trail of Lewis and Clark. The book is an easy, delightful read, putting into perspective the incredible achievements of the original expedition. If you don't want to go out and get your own boat and take your family on the same journey, no one can blame you. But if you will ever be tempted or want to live the adventure vicariously, get this book!
