Fabulous J.G. Hook Paisley Skirt, Circa late 1970’s/early 1980’s. Made in Hungary, of 100% Rayon. Unlined. Waist measures 14” across and the skirt is 34.5” long. There are five buttons on the left side from waist to hip. Max Raab, the founder of J.G. Hook Clothing in 1974 was actually a Hollywood film producer, co-producing A Clockwork Orange. With J.G. Hook, his aim was to revive the classic prep style of the 1950’s. He could well be credited for laying the groundwork for Ralph Lauren’s updating & popularizing WASP clothing. In 1980, the New York Times described Raab as “The Dean of the Prep Look” and deemed him responsible for “supplying American women with as many blazers and button-down Oxford-cloth shirts as they could wear with Fair Isle Sweaters and Bass Weejun loafers”. After a good run, J.G. Hook was sadly sold in the 1998 due to the emergence of Grunge and losing market share to Ralph Lauren. The skirt is in flawless condition. Last photo is of another J.G. Hook paisley skirt, shown for styling inspiration. Side note: back in the day, THIS was “midi” length; quite longer than just below the knee, but not as long as maxi.
