Sun, rain, salt, natural oils — all add shading, luster, and suppleness that no man-made process could match. Of course, once the patina has begun developing in nature (like antique metals exposed to the elements), we step in and lend a hand, with proprietary washing, tanning, waxing, and other finishing processes that move the oxidation process along.
