Jones New York is a women's clothing brand that was founded in 1966 by Sidney Kimmel. Kimmel wanted to create a brand for working women that was affordable and fashionable. The brand became popular because women were entering the workforce and wanted clothing for the office. In 1975, Kimmel bought the label from W.R. Grace and established the Jones Apparel Group, which also owns Kasper, Anne Klein, Nine West shoes, and Rachael Roy.
Jones New York offers apparel, outerwear, and accessories. The brand quickly became one of the fastest-growing apparel companies in the U.S. in the 1980s. In 2004, the company purchased Barneys New York for $400 million and sold it in 2007 to Istithmar for $942.3 million.
In April 2014, Sycamore Partners bought the Jones Group for $2.2 billion and split the group up into smaller companies, including Jones New York. In January 2015, Sycamore announced plans to shut down the brand's wholesale business and U.S. retail locations.
