The Joppa salt pans were located outside Edinburgh in East Lothian. Originally settled by industry workers in the salt production and coal mining industries, salt was produced here from the 1630s all the way through the 1950s. Evaporation of salt water by heating "pans" (originally just hollows in the rocks), using coal as the heat source, produced salt, which in most cases was exported to England. This print depicts the salt works buildings associated with the industry, two of which are still standing and in use today. I purchased this print in Edinburgh Scotland. Excellent condition. Frame dimensions are 13" x 16". Fast shipping and careful packaging. NO BUNDLING, PLEASE!
