Beautifully covered in the back with hanger. Jean Henry's Theorem Painting is a carefully crafted piece of Early American Folk Art. Introduced during the late 1700's, Theorem Painting was often included in the curriculum for young ladies attending female academies.
Theorem Painting requires hours of intense concentration. To produce each exclusive theorem, Jean Henry uses a painstaking process. First, she creates an original drawing. Then she separates the drawing into
logical groups and traces these onto mylar sheets. Using an exacto knife, Jean cuts each design piece to form a precise stencil - or theorem.
Holding the stencil in place on an antiqued white velvet background,
Jean applies oil pigments with various brushes through the openings. After the paint dries thoroughly, she adds details and finishing touches free hand. Finally, the theorem is museum mounted in an all wood frame.
