do you know if this is closer to a 5 than a 7? my daughter is a perfect 6. So I usually go larger if I don't know the manufacturer fit.

I would say it's true to a size 6. it got a bit tight in the armpit area at about 7 years old. my daughter is average size and this dress fit her best at 6years old.
