Jim Abbott, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, was born with a birth defect that left him without a right hand. His disability, however, did not hinder his determination to achieve success in the world of sports.
Pitching a complete game during the 1988 Olympics, winning the United States a gold medal over Japan, Abbott went on to become the first Yankees pitcher to throw a no-hitter in a decade.
My son was 8 when he first saw Abbott in the Olympics. So captivated by his abilities, he followed him when he played for the Angels.
This was the only baseball he collected, and it was displayed in a plastic dome on a shelf in his room all of these years. He married in 2008 and left it behind. The plastic cover broke, but did it's job. The baseball is like new except for a bit of fading around the FOTOBALL logo.
