John B Stetson 4X Beaver Line Rider Cowboy Hat size 7 - John B Stetson invented the iconic cowboy hat in the 1860s. This legendary cowboy hat is a size 7 Line Rider style in the color is called Sable which is a dark chocolate brown. It’s quality is a 4X Beaver and the brim is 3 3/4 inches. Stetson hats are rated on a scale. The higher the number of Xs the higher quality of hat. Further, the material that the hat is made from is also an indicator of the quality of the hat. The highest quality of Stetson hats are made from Beaver. Beaver is naturally waterproof. This made cowboy hats made of Beaver very desirable as Cowboys worked outside in all weather conditions including rain, ice, and snow. The inside of a Stetson hats is fabric with a picture of John B Stetson giving water to his horse using the hat as a bucket. There is a bow in the back of the rim of the hat to indicate it is the back of the hat and underneath is the number 7 indicating size 7 Men’s or Women’s. The measurement from the band to the crown (top of the hat) is 5 1/2 inches. The hat has feathers on the side which can be removed. We suggest this be done by a Stetson store or other qualified person. This hat was purchased at Carol’s Western Store in Kansas City, Missouri which is marked on the inside rim. This hat was purchased in the early 1980’s and is excellent like new condition. The hat is in its original box.
