This is a really wonderful Danish Modern brooch by Jorgen Jensen. Jorgen Jensen (1895 – 1966), second son of Georg Jensen, followed in his Father’s footsteps and also became a Silversmith, and, like his Father, served his apprenticeship with a Goldsmith. After he qualified after training with a German Goldsmith in Munich, he joined his father’s company in 1917 to 1923. He then started his own workshop in Stockholm, which continued until 1936, but he rejoined his Father’s company, the Georg Jensen Silversmithy, until 1962.
Jorgen Jensen was a well known silver and gold designer in his own right, but his pewter pieces are also well known and highly collectible. This particular design was used in a pewter necklace and a ring as well. The pieces are numbered #170, which I believe to be a design number.
The brooch is marked "PEWTER, Jorgen Jensen DENMARK 170" on the back.
It is 2 3/4 inches long and 13/16 inches wide. It is in very good vintage condition having normal use and wear marks, but no major dents, dings, scratches or scuffs. The pin and catch function well.
