Are the straps sturdy and reliable? No thinning or breaks in the leather or hardware?

@be_wilderment I found the straps and the hardware to be reliable. I would say the straps are softer than they appear, which I actually liked - otherwise I think they would dig in too much into the shoulders. No thinning.
