The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was a landmark in American coinage history. When it was introduced in 1979 as a replacement for the short-lived Eisenhower Dollar, it was the first circulating U.S. coin to feature a woman. It was also the first small-size circulating Dollar coin since the Gold Dollars of the 1800's. Anthony Dollars were issued from 1979 to 1981, but they proved unpopular because they were similar in size to the Quarter. The last Anthony Dollar was struck in 1999. The 1999 coin was struck as an emergency due to an unexpected shortage caused by a sudden demand in vending machines and public transportation. This collectible coin comes in a protective vinyl sleeve with an informative mount and certificate of authenticity.
