LES BERNARD GLASS STONE CABOCHON SILVERTONE METAL CLIP ON BUTTON EARRINGS VTG SIGNED. I was advised that this estate item was purchased at Neiman Marcus in Houston, Texas, in the 1990s. These earrings are designed with a silver colored base metal, possibly silver, brass or pewter plating. There is one large stone in either glass or a stone, possibly jasper, and is cool to the touch. The earrings are about 7/8 inches long by 7/8 inches wide and about 3/8 inch deep. Together the earrings weigh approximately 0.5 ounces. They are stamped or signed on the back of one of the earrings. They are in good vintage condition. The Les Bernard company grew out of Vogue, founded in 1936 by Harold Shapiro. The Shapiro family sold their share of Vogue in 1962 and Bernard, Harold's son, and designer Lester Joy opened a new company, Les Bernard Inc. in 1963. Les Bernard created innovative styles of crystal, glass, enamel, marcasites, silver and precious metal alloys. They are all of high quality and made in a variety of styles including Brutalist, Modern, Art Deco, and Egyptian Revival. Les Bernard, Inc. created jewelry for the television series Dynasty. You can see many of Les Bernard, Inc.'s ideas represented in the products of Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and others. The company Les Bernard, Inc. went out of business in 1996.
