Large Vintage MCM Ceramic Lion Planter Matte Finish USA Pottery

This large vintage MCM planter has been made in the shape of a muscular African lion with a tawny colored body and dark brown mane. The powerful looking lion is depicted in mid stride as if stalking prey with his tail curled around his rear leg. The hollow body of the lion is finished in a matte glaze and serves as a planter. The lion planter is in good vintage condition with only one chip behind the lion’s left ear (see photos). It weighs in at 1lb 14oz and measures 13" long, 6" tall and 4" wide. As seen in photo 5, the piece is marked on the inside of the rear left paw with the number "242F" and the inside of the right front paw with "USA". This terrific planter looks great whether displayed on a desk or shelf as a decorative accent or used to hold a plant. An unusual vintage find!
