Late 19th Century Watercolor on Engraving Plate XLI Kuang Yao - Bodhi-Dharma (Ta-mo Hsiang) framed. The famous Buddhist pilgrim, who came from India to China in the year 520, and was the first of the Chinese Buddhist patriarchs. The statuette, 13.5 inches high, is fashioned in Kuang Yao, the peculiar reddish-gray stoneware of the province of Kuangtung, exhibited at the base and in the hollow of the figure, which are unglazed. He is standing in the attitude of religious meditation, dressed in flowing robes with the hands folded in the sleeves. Dimensions: W 10.75" X D 0.75" X H 18.5" (framed) Art 5.75" X 13". The engraving may show hardly seen bleeding. Overall the engraving is in good antique pre-owned condition. The piece comes from a private collector.
