Le Pretre House New Orleans, LA. Originally built for dentist Joseph Gardette, this 716 Dauphine residence was owned by the family of Jean Baptiste Le Pretre for almost 50 years. Attached to the "Le Pretre House" is the Sultan's Legend. The legend is of a Sultan's brother who fled here with members of the Sultan's harem, the ship and its crew. Known to entertain lavishly one morning he and his harem were all found stabbed to death the ship and crew missing. Legend only knows what happened. Rex known as the King of Carnival, is an international symbol of Mardi Gras. Rex presented Mardi Gras' first organized daytime parade, selected Carnival's colors-purple, gold and green, produced its flag: and introduced its anthem. "If Ever I Cease To Love."
