skp19 The ones that are so obvious that people are falling for- the wallets "brand new" with stickers on the box. That kills me. Louis Vuitton does not put the bar code stickers on the box. Any item that has a bar code sticker placed on the box is fake, it's so bad. Sadly we can't help much anymore, there are so many fakes and makes it difficult with those who have authentic items :-(

But if a bag cost over 1,000 chances are nobody is gonna sell you a real one for half that unless it's worn or a few years old. But if it hasn't patina at all come on be smart!

I just started keeping that stuff and most of us didn't plan on selling items we brought years ago, so it's your job to do your own research on the bag not our job! Having a box or dust bag doesn't guarantee authenticity! You can buy those online! Be smart! 🤔

emilyellenco Thank you for this. I have to admit I've bought fakes in the past, but I realized how stupid that is. Since then I can authenticate really well after I started buying real LV. Cards not fitting in slots. Leather being pleather. The LV being cut off in stitching, not to mention uneven stitching. It's all wrong. I'd rather have a beat up auth LV for the price of a fake then a fake. Do your research people. Buy safely.

swellbetty A common sign it's not real is if the Listing will go under $500 and never be authenticated by Posh. Also anyone who knows LV knows what min things are required like a heat stamp and a date code. I've also never seen LV that has anything other than raised lettering on hardware. I'm sure there are other things I don't know.

cassariscloset @swellbetty I understand and agree! I have purchased a few preloved items and thankfully they were authentic but again I asked for several pics and I was knowable about the brand. In some cases it may be worth it, but sometimes I'd rather pay the extra for piece of mind! Like these LVspeedies on here for $700/$800 I would just buy it new. It's a gamble if your item doesn't get authentication by Posh. So you gotta know what you're buying.

lindaboston @cassariscloset ...it looks and feels real. But just reading some of the posts from others make me wonder. It has the stamp inside the little piece of leather with numbers. I paid $180 for it on here. It's a gorgeous bag with a small flaw and I plan on going to the LV store and getting fixed and now to authenticate it. I wish I could show you pics of it.

cassariscloset @lindaboston I think you may be missing a digit unless it's a really old vintage piece. Usually date codes are two letters and four numbers but since you're going to the store they'll authenticate it because they definitely won't fix a fake, one store I know of even took the bag because counterfeit items are indeed illegal 😦

Then if you want to play it safe, buy its that are over $500 that will be authenticated by Posh. If you want a bag that's under then research research research the brand and bag, Review the sellers pics throughly and ask questions. Do you have a brand in mind?

With that being said, I recently submitted an offer for a vintage bag like the Piano style, but the date code is A914. Shouldn't it have another letter or number ?. My research on a limited scale tells me not authentic. Can you offer advice ? Thanks in advance.

That piece you asked me to look at is an old pouchette that looks like one that I owe so of course it's not going to look exactly like a newer item! You need more proof as to why you feel this way. I personally think otherwise however to be sure take it to an LV store.

foxytip There are authentication services online that are reputable. Etinceler for Chanel $7, Carol diva for Louis vuitton $7. The purse forum for free. I have used the first 2 for Posh, eB and p. P disputes and won. They are services that hold up in the courts I get all my items authenticated professionally. If you are going to spend alot, better safe than sorry. FYI Most Louis vuitton boutiques will not authenticate

If you still can't tell the difference item buy new from LV and an item over $500 so Poshmark can authenticate it for free!

A receipt, box, and other accessories doesn't mean it's authentic and just because a seller doesn't have those things doesn't mean their item is fake, it just means we didn't plan on selling out item and we no longer have those things.,Be smart! If a bag normal cost $3000 and it's being sold for $400 and it looks new...use common sense, no one is going to sell a real bag for that!

amandarenz88 @sexylady54 I’m new to Posh too &sold 3 of my authentic LV bags for 1/3 of what they were worth, but I wanted to be fair because they were from 2004-08, posh ambassador bought 2 of them, &are up for resale now. So if you’re looking for a luxury item it may help to buy from someone selling numerous luxury items. I don’t know much about what it means to be an Ambassador but I cannot imagine them selling fakes. Also when I sold my bags, I was rated 5 out of 5 stars

jamiegarner537 @cassariscloset the only bags that do NOT have date codes are bags made before 1982. Anything after that has a date code. Also watch out for the "unauthorized authentic". That means fake. LV does not ever ever sell ovrrstock or items that didn't pass inspection for a discounted price. Watch out for these scams also.

jermel8088 @melis2a While Poshmark does a good job at authentication, I still pay to have my own done through ProAuthenticators or Liyah's Luxuries. It costs as little as $5-$20 depending if you want a verbal authentication or a letter emailed.
