@luvnbling
Hi Karen
I live about 30 minutes South of Penn State in Pennsylvania. Right now the bees are in their hives trying to survive winter. Honey will be available during the spring blooming season. It's wildflower honey and I'm not anywhere near GMO corn fields. So the honey is great! I'll let you know when I harvest but it won't be until June!
Hey, sounds like fun on the remodel of your house!!
Thanks!!!! ππ

Oh, I love this! I hope this doesn't sound too "out there" but I have Lyme disease and use bee venom therapy to treat it and manage my symptoms. Yep, I sting myself with live honeybees 3-4 days a week. After ten years of heavy duty medications and almost dying, honeybees are quite literally saving my life. Miraculous and wondrous creatures they are β€

Hi Lauren,
WOW! I'm constantly learning new things and benefits about the honey bees. I didn't know that it helped people with Lyme disease. Since I live in PA we have a lot of people with LD. I will have to research and let them know. They may have to come over and help me

when I get into the hives. lol Thanks for letting me know!!!! I will share this important benefit about "the girls". Does it also help eating the honey and propolis? I really wish you well and hope you feel "normal" very soon!!! Thank you!! Best wishes
redbirdboutique
Yes, I eat tons of honey and have found propolis to be hugely helpful. If you're interested there's a Facebook group called Healing Lyme with Bee Venom. It started out as a Lyme/bee venom group but now we have people with all sorts of ailments from MS to arthritis to ALS who're stinging and at least getting symptom relief. Also lots of bee keepers in the group plus tons of great info regarding the healing benefits of the venom (and all the products from the hive.)
redbirdboutique
And thank you for kind words! Best wishes to you as well π

@redbirdboutique
Thanks! I will check out FB. I just did a quick search on stings/LD. I will have to bring this up at the next bee keepers meeting and look into it a little more and spread the info. Thank you!!!! I'll be harvesting in June - I can send you wildflower honey then. πππ

Awesome! I'll never turn a jar of honey down haha. Happy beekeeping, I'm glad our paths crossed ππ

@kim1215
Hahaha...congrats!!! It should of kept you warm. I know I get really hot with the suit on during summer checking the hives. Hope you filled a smoker full of Halloween candy. Lol
kim1215
@nfrantz I didn't think about that......LOL! Keep doing your good work.

I may consider it , the bees have made hives a few places around the outside of my house. Lol

This is so awesome! I'm in Pa too, I thought about beekeeping before but we live in a row home with only a small back yard so the neighbors wouldn't like it lol It would be a fascinating hobby and highly educational for us to venture into it if we ever move into a place with a larger field. *maybe one dayπ* Bees are beautiful, their honey is medicinal and yummy and they are sadly fading away, thanks for helping them STAY πππ ππ

@fresh4lesschic
Thanks PA Posher!!! LOL. I suggest to look in your area for a Bee Association. Ours (Central PA) meets once a month with approx 150 people from several counties. Its amazing how much there is to learn about honey bees and being a good beekeeper. If I had known, I would have joined an Association before getting my bees. Then you'll be ready to get your hives when you move or you can set them up at a nearby farm or even a park. It's always great to have a mentor also. π π― β€οΈ π

Wow, so cool!! I live in Southern California, and it just saddens me so much to see these lost bees staggering around, destined to die. I applaud anyone who keeps them. Talk about a mutually beneficial relationship! Very nice--

@miaflora
THANKS Mia-Faith!! I really wish more people would pay more attention to gmo's, pestsides, herbicides - if its killing the honey bee - it's poison for us too! I love being a Beekeeper! Thanks for your support!!! ππ

nfrantz
@alma4posh
Hi Alma,
The bees are busy foraging right now with flowers in bloom and I'll be extracting honey in September. π

I love natural honey! It makes my hot tea taste better and me feel better. π

Me too!!! π thanks!!! π

Yay! A fellow bee lover. π I raise butterflies and am constantly educating people about the dangers of pesticides. Glad to βmeetβ people on Poshmark who feel similarly!
nfrantz
@challnc
Hey Girl!! Yes, itβs nice to know that we are making a small difference saving our pollinators π from pesticides. What kind of butterflies do you raise? That sounds very interesting and intriguing! Iβve planted about 100 milkweed seeds in the fall so, Iβm hoping to help the monarch population. Please tell me more about raising butterflies. π¦ SO glad to meet you!!!!!
challnc
@nfrantz I mainly raise eastern black swallowtail caterpillars as they are local visitors to my garden in NC. Iβve also raised monarchs and painted ladies, and the occasional other visitors such as a gray hairstreak (really interesting caterpillar). I grow milkweed too - although not as much as you! I have a tiny patio, but I pack it full so I have food for everyone. One of these days I would love a house with a fair amount of land so I can set up a butterfly preserve! ππ¦
nfrantz
@challnc WOW!!!! You are the first lepidopterist that I have (sort of) met. I am now going to have to research about raising a few butterflies. You are inspirational!!! And... a good friend of mine lives in Raleigh - sheβs a REMAX Realtor - I can hook you up with her when youβre ready to look for a property for your βbutterfly dream farmβ. Then you can have milkweed, butterflies.... and chickens.... and all the honey bees you want!!!
nfrantz
Do you mail order your caterpillars or do you go caterpillar hunting locally?? π€
challnc
@nfrantz Well, perhaps more of an amateur enthusiast, although Iβve been doing it for probably 7 years now. π The swallowtails come to me and lay eggs on my Rue and parsley. The monarchs are scarce in Raleigh and my patio is small, so I tend to order them. And yes, I would love to raise chickens!!! I vermicompost too in addition to outdoor composting. Itβs a lot of fun!
