They are known as “Lucky Irish Pennies.” The first coin is the large Irish Penny that was made from 1928 to 1968. It was the first unique penny coin in Irish history; previously, the Irish used English coins. The second is the small Irish Penny issued from 1971 to 2000. Both coins feature the legendary harp that is said to have belonged to Irish King Brian Boru and that is now the national symbol of Ireland.
