Like in the heroic novel "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway, this giant marlin, not to be confused with a swordfish, represents determination, focus on a goal, and the love of fishing. The slot for the tie is adjustable from 2-3/4-inches to 3-1/4-inches. Overall measurements of the tie bar are 3-inches wide x 1.16-inch high, and 5/8-inch total depth. The marlin measures 1-3/8-inch-wide x 1-1/4-inch high. The tie bar is pre-owned and in good condition except for a dark spot on the midline of the body, an area of discoloration next to the tail.
The fish in the book was an Atlantic Blue marlin, one of the large billfish that live in the temperate and tropical regions of the Atlantic Ocean. They can grow up to 14 feet long and weigh 2,000 pounds. As in the book, the marlin's common predator is the white shark. Setting a hook in the hard mouth of a Blue Marlin requires skill and patience. Bringing one to the boat requires that, plus strong' muscles. Some people have battled these fish for five hours only to lose them on the line.
