kittcouture @pmcquatters yes Andrew has Cerebral Palsy he is 31 yrs old now. I’m actually his stepmom. We share him with his Mom & his stepson during the week. He’s totally profound, can’t walk, can’t talk, diapers all of his life. He was born with it. He’s a 6 month old in a 31 yr. old body. He has good days & bad ones. Really sad, but he does give us joy except in those bad days. We are 62 now so it’s getting harder for us! How about your brother?🌹🐾

pmcquatters @kittcouture Oh, God bless you! My brother was in a motorcycle accident many years ago. According to the doctors, he would be a complete vegetable and institutionalized until he died. That didn't happen, because he learned how to walk, talk as well as other things. He thinks like a child, even though he's in his 60's, and he has dementia. I was living in Atlanta, when our mom died too young, so I moved back here and just moved in with him in January. It's getting harder and harder for me too.

pmcquatters I know he"s a blessing, but, also, he can be hard to handle, and I really miss the life that I had in Atlanta. I'm counting my blessings, though, because I have so much to be thankful for, and I know that I'm doing the right thing. :)

kittcouture @pmcquatters I’m so sad that you’re going through this. I’m assuming you have no other Siblings to help you. All I can say is you’re a Saint to put your brother 1st. But there does come a time when other options need to happen.

kittcouture Our biggest problem is Jeff & Donna (Andrew’s parents) agreed they would never put Andrew in a home. That was at least 20 years ago, they were told he’d never live passed 25 yrs, old. He’s 31 & because he’s not in a home he’s probably more healthy than us. But we are now getting to the point that we can’t continue down this road. So much more involved than I can say, but trust me the stable parent & who has custody is my husband. I hope we can survive this entire everyday responsibility.

pmcquatters @kittcouture Goodness, Dana, I'm so sorry. I understand some of what you're going through, and it's hard. I don't have any siblings, or anyone who can help me. When I first came back (I was born here) to help my brother, I attended a nondenominational church, just so that I could have some sort of supportive network. It was a disaster! I ended up taking care of the pastor's wife and his father. I wrestle everyday with when is it time to put my brother in a home.

pmcquatters I can't hardly bear the thought of it for now. But, if he was like Andrew, I know it would be time, because I couldn't do what you and your husband do. You two are saints. Caregiving is hard, even is the person is able to do things on his own, but I couldn't imagine what you two go through. I am so sorry.
