We seem to be coming upon this issue more frequently now that Poshmark has added their Boutique items. We feel they do NOT qualify as True Vintage and therefore do not qualify to share in the Vintage Share Group. If you have jewelry from the Boutique, or Vintage-style jewelry, you are more than welcome to share in our Jewelry Share Group, but please don’t sign up to share in the Vintage Share Group. Thanks for understanding.

I am very glad to see this post. I have noticed that many closets seem to use the word vintage freely, and often for things that are selling new right now. I've been wondering if I should mention it. So glad you made this nice post with helpful hints for us!
projectattic
@nanasjewelbox agreed!
projectattic
@vibes4vintage I really appreciate your post. I have been seeing this too. I have a bit of a different though related question.
What does one do about listing vintage when it’s a designer you want in that designer’s brand category? I’ve got Gucci and Givenchy vintage ( for example) that don’t get shared by our group because they’re not in the “vintage” category. “Vintage” is listed only in the title. What can I do to get them shared? Just put them at the top of the closet?
rangerric
@projectattic That's up to you... When I have an item from a "Known" maker I use the true brand name and just make sure the word "Vintage" is the first word in the main title. If you're consistent most sharers will figure it out. I always look for the word vintage regardless where it may be and follow through, I can only hope others do the same.
nanasjewelbox
@projectattic May I jump in? I used to struggle with that. If you are going to put them at the top, please be sure everything you want shared is at the top. I tried it this way when I first started. I cam to believe I was shorting myself shares. AND people looking for vintage were missing many of my things. When I say shorted shares, I mean because often people will share more than the required if they keep seeing things they like
nanasjewelbox
@projectattic If they have to search for the required number of items to share they darn tootin will not go over that amount. I have found it's better to put vintage in the brand field all the time. You can put the name of the maker in the title and the description and they will be a part of the results of a search for that brand. You won't be missed. In fact my Givenchy didn't move until I made this change and in the past month I've sold several items.
projectattic
@nanasjewelbox thank you for this information. It’s really helpful in considering how to get more visibility and SEO
cinthia505
Thank you all!
nanasjewelbox
@rangerric You know, even though the shareres may "figure it out" that doesn't lead to smooth sharing and it sure doesn't lead you to more sales. There are lots of buyers out there that have a vintage style of dressing, but not being dealers will not recognize many of the vintage brand names. SO they search for the brand vintage. ANd when I share I use the brand vintage to get the field I'm sharing from. Most closets don't have all or mostly vintage so this is necessary
nanasjewelbox
@cinthia505 You have one of my fave closets here, I never worry what is ok to share in your closet. I just love it!! In fact you are in a group of only a handful whose closets I aim to emulate. Classy, nice true vintage. I love to share your closet, I go dozens of rows down so I can see your items :))
nanasjewelbox
@projectattic You are very welcome!! While Poshmark has certain idiosyncracies for how to reach people effectively, there are certain retail truths that transcend the platform, the most important is be accurate and truthful about what you are selling!!. It's even ok if you don't know what it is, just say so! Don't classify anything unless you know for sure. Honesty. The Golden Rule. I love that this share group and it's director have the integrity to keep the group honest!!
rangerric
@nanasjewelbox That's a good point... still it depends on the item mix for each closet. I obviously don't have a serious issue with my mix but would still recommend each closet do some trial and error and do what's best for them... I have noticed that my items get very good (accurate) placement on google so having a correct "brand" entry may have benefits beyond Posh... (can't prove this). I think it's tough to say one way is really better than the other,,, just "what works for me"
projectattic
@nanasjewelbox Sure thing! I’ve never misrepresented vintage myself—I am more concerned about how to deal with double categories and the nebulous “vintage” brand on the Poshmark app. Of course it makes sense for something that was never really designer or isn’t known as a designer these days to get classified as vintage when it’s over 25 years old. But New York & Company or Lilly Pulitzer from the 1990s. List as Vintage or its name brand? Those are the hard nuances of an imperfect platform.
cinthia505
@nanasjewelbox Oh, your kind words make my heart sing. Thank you so so much!!
nanasjewelbox
@rangerric Yes yes yes, Google is def a factor!!! I frequently use Google to find something on Poshmark. They are pretty stinking good at it! I think has more to do with the words in your description than what you put in your brand though.Way back when I started someone told me to always put brand name in title, that is how Google finds your listing.
rangerric
@nanasjewelbox The quality of the description (as a whole) is critical! I even hinted at that in my text (above)... but that's worthy of a full discussion board...
nanasjewelbox
@projectattic True. I think that is why the info you put into the search field will find and produce the brand name you are asking for no matter where you have it placed, the title, description, or brand. Why don't you try Goodling a few of your listing, one done each way, and see what comes up. Or, better yet, do it for something in someone's closet that way your own browsing history won't come into play. I may try that myself and see :)
nanasjewelbox
@cinthia505 You are most welcome! I mean it very sincerely!
rangerric
@projectattic Just play it by ear... no "right" answer... with something that's borderline vintage and a well known brand, go with the brand, if it's an obscure brand or an obvious vintage style, use "vintage"...
cinthia505
@nanasjewelbox the support makes my day and keeps me going. : )))
projectattic
@nanasjewelbox @rangerric Very good advice! I will play around with these listings and try to find the right fit. Googling is a great idea too. It’s true that people looking for current Lilly don’t give a fig for White Label 90s Lilly. Now I’ve got my work cut out for me! Have a goodnight 😘😴💤
bwederquist
Thank you so much for posting these !!👏👏 I see non-authentic "vintage" ALL over Poshmark! Like the boutique reproductions.. Thanks for keeping our group authentic vintage❤😘
nanasjewelbox
@projectattic You have a goon night as well!! Good luck!
plainestjane
I hope you don't judge me too harshly for having some items marked Vintage that were a bit under 25 years. I had something listed as that that I bought in high school in 1999. 😅 I do struggle a bit with certain brands whether to use the Vintage brand or their respective brands there. I suppose I haven't seen much difference in sales, though, as long as the description has a lot of good keywords so people can find it.
loveandsqualor
I did have a pair of NWT glasses when I first started selling that were literally branded "Vintage". As in, that was the brand that was listed on the tag. Very confusing! 😂
myantoinette
@projectattic I generally share the items that have vintage somewhere in the description, but, if it’s buried in your listings and I’m sharing a ton of people, I will select the vintage tab. Put them close to the top (within an hour of the share closing time) and many of us will share them.
rangerric
@plainestjane Not really an issue with "borderline" items... and in many cases it's simply impossible to know exactly how old something is.. approximations are perfectly OK
rangerric
@loveandsqualor Wow.. not much you could do with that one...

Love this post! Been seeing new items listed as Vintage over and over and it makes me want to scream.
vibes4vintage
@poshlmt agree! We see it too and rather than tag the few members that we have noticed this issue with we hope this message gets through to them.
projectattic
@amorre1 Thank you! This is good advice. I know I’ve accidentally shared some non-vintage items marked “vintage” or “vtg” or “vintage vibes” in the title because I was sharing too fast. I get so annoyed about that that I’ve started, like you, to search for the brand Vintage before sharing a closet. But then I know if others are doing that, they’re missing my vintage items marked by brand. Sigh 😔 so much to consider!
projectattic
@nanasjewelbox Hello again! I tried googling my listings and I come up with nothing. Zilch. Nada. I checked my settings and Search Visibility is on. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong :-/ I have pretty detailed descriptive titles, and googling some of the more specific terms like pattern names won’t bring up my listings. Any thoughts? Tia.
rangerric
@projectattic Google isn't instant... it may take a few days to filter thru the system. and it helps to link to Pinterest. Search Google Images using your Title text. I just tried one at random and my image came up the second one... won't always work that well but at least I know it's there somewhere.
nanasjewelbox
@projectattic You know, I don't know all the exact triggers and requirements for Google to pick up a listing. I have found that some of mine are right there front and center when I search. But I have also found that sometimes I have to scroll down quite a ways to find it, and some I never did see. I supect it has to do with how active a listing is
nanasjewelbox
@projectattic If you are serious about wanting to know how to make Google work for you, I'd try an experiment. Pick out 6 listings to play with, and share them anywhere from 0 to 10 in a day, keeping track of how many for each. And check Google for them shortly after. See how long it takes, and if more sharing within PM is required to get your listing seen. I've thought about doing this but time is an issue right now

I’m new to this group and I have 90s items that are dancing around the 20yr mark 🥴 Please let me know if you ever see anything labeled incorrectly. I absolutely adore this group and always want to stay in good standings! ❤️
rangerric
@discountdivas18 Sizing hasn't changed much since the 90's for any known American company. There is always an issue with "Fast Fashion" items made in the Orient being inconstant or off size... and other countries have different standards... sizing conversion charts are available to cover most countries. always wise to provide actual measurements (or ask if you're a buyer) Others may offer more specific information...

@vibes4vintage Hello, I wanted you to know I still want to participate in sharing from time to time but until my life becomes less chaotic I can’t commit to sharing a lot. I blocked you only because I’ve been missing potential buyers comments & questions because of call outs. I’ve liked the page so I can find it on days I have time to share. I hope this is ok. I don’t mean to offend anyone at all. Thank you so much. Chris
vibes4vintage
@mixedbrew aww thanks for the message! We can always remove your closet name from our tag list if you prefer.
vibes4vintage
@vintagebitchaz hi and welcome to our group.! We love your closet but need to tell you that the Boutique vintage items you’re selling are actually new ‘vintage’ reproductions made with vintage molds. Therefore they don’t qualify to be shared in our true vintage share ... but you are welcome to share in our Just Jewelry share that allows all types and ages of jewelry. If you do have true vintage in your closet then you would need to move them to the top. Thanks for understanding!

@aestheticalvntg It’s just that a lot of items are listed as Vintage when it’s obvious they are not. My parents and grandparents went antiquing my entire life...Real, High quality antiques, so it’s a shame to see things listed as Vintage that aren’t. I could rattle on, but the Real point is that everything should be labeled and described as accurately and properly as possible.
vibes4vintage
@seriouslyviolet Hey Hun! I am not sure if you are signing up to share in a group or not, but this is just an FYI Post. Thank you!
nanasjewelbox
Please make sure your items are branded correctly!! If the item is new, it is a vintage reproduction, and should NOT have Vintage as the brand. This is important for your fellow group members so we can quickly find things to share that are correct for the group.

rangerric
@rensvintagepop Both "rules" work...there has been a trend (attempt) across the antique/gallery/auction house/collectable industry, since 2000, to bring all the different types of collectables under a consistent standard... the current guideline for all vintage items is 25, but it's only a guide... It's the thought that count...

Hi!! I am very happy to be a part of the Vibes4Vintage share group. I genuinely like seeing the many vintage closets and sharing. If I may ask for some advice, it is group policy to share 10 items from closets participating. There are a few closets that always share the same 3 items from my closet three times over. This happens every time. I don’t know if I should send a note, just not share their closet? I am a “no drama” babe but this really bothers me...would you advise??
rangerric
@fashnminx Those folks are looking only at your items with "Vintage" as the brand... changing the brand to "Vintage on as many items as you can (where appropriate) will help... also add a note to your sign in reminding folks to look at your "Titles" as well as the brand...
applepies92
This is so true! What some sellers don't realize is selling an item as vntg or antq when its not is setting them up for return cases being made against them. Buyers who know their stuff will *not accept an item if it is misrepresented. Hoping it "slips by" the others is unethical.I occasionally come across an item to list & I'm sure fits the category, but don't know 100%the approx.date.If I'm confident enough to list it,I just make sure to state that in my description.
applepies92
Honest & Ethical = Good Business.
I'm so glad I found this group. Promote your business as an extension of yourself. 💗☺💗
vibes4vintage
@applepies92 Thank you...
applepies92
I'd like to add something to the list.I know it's a hot keyword, but "RARE" is way overused. It is not always rare if the person listing "heard" it was hard to come by, saw it listed as rare somewhere else(even if there are not a lot of them that you can find) or can't find information on the item easily. With the emergence of online selling sites, which are now common and mainstream, it's all about advertising. I get that, but it doesn't make it ethical.
applepies92
Maybe I'm wrong, and the word itself has just been watered down, or a different time brings different meaning to a word, but I still think it's important to show integrity when representing a particular market. Here's an example. Porcelain "commodes" that were common household items before indoor plumbing are antique, but you can still find them. Most were tossed, many were turned into planters, and some survived in Grandpa's barn. Uncommon find? Maybe. Rare? Probably not.
applepies92
And vintage fashion? Same thing applies. You can find vintage clothing stores packed with really fun items that are not so easy to come by anymore. If you find a dress made by a famous mid century designer,it might be more valuable, but that doesn't mean it's rare.It might be, but what's to say only one of every 100 brick & mortor shops carries the same dress, and only half of those advertise online. How about the Grandmother who never threw anything away, and it just isn't "available" yet?
applepies92
We know people do find valuable items while sourcing, and may even find a rare item now and then. It all comes down to the seller's knowledge and experience. Someone who went through a reputable fashion program, a person who has been in the business & learned through years of experience, and even a person who will thoroughly research an item, and consult with experts, will have a better idea if something is rare, but it still comes down to integrity. Most things listed as rare are not.
rangerric
@applepies92 Agree completely... and I rarely (pun) use the word... I try to be descriptive and accurate in my listings and shy away from subjective words and phrases... (all over used) I have a personal dislike for "BoHo" which usually means "I really don't know the correct word and like short cuts..."
rangerric
@applepies92 The other issue is that almost anything mid-century or earlier is "somewhat" rare... so the word becomes meaningless.. My feeling is that "Vintage" or "made in 1953" should be self explanatory..... (hoping for to much I know...)
applepies92
@rangerric 😄 Perfect! I actually have one listing with BoHo in the title. It was the first thing I listed, and a had no idea where it fit (fashion is not my main area, so this is a good example of me using a trendy keyword as an attention getter. 😲) Someone suggested it and I just put it in the description. Better watch my own backyard! 😉
rangerric
@applepies92 "Trendy".. "on trend" is another one of those booby traps... It's just a term forced on us by the fashion industry trying to tell us what to buy... and some get so focused on whats is style where they live they forget this in a national market... what's hot in San Fran and Boston may not be the same in LA or Atlanta... and it's always HOT or COLD somewhere...

I felt so old when I saw someone post something that was 10 years old and called it vintage! I think they were just trying to play up an out of date item though. Lol!

@etherialaura This happens... the phrase is usually "New Old Stock" or "Dead Stock"... NOS older items can have tags, but they aren't new so NWT is a little misleading... I leave it blank and describe in the text (sorry for taking so long, My Bad...)
etherialaura
@vibes4vintage Laugh out loud! No problem. 🙂

I get it!

I have lots of vintage not listed because I've not been able to get visibility I guess. So this is wonderful! Thanks.

@mboutique4you Good morning and Happy Easter! Hope you and yours are safe and healthy! We'd love to add you to our roster! The guidelines for the share groups are listed several places and it's pretty easy... Our group is very supportive and fun! I'll add you now and you can jump in any day you wish (no commitment required)

Thank you !! So appreciated!!

@mboutique4you Feel free to ask any question you my have. We only share the individual closets that sign in on any specific day... usually 10-20.. IGNORE the large blocks of closet names... Our groups are daily..

I would love to join some of your vintage share groups @vibes4vintage. I used to own a consignment store and I loved when people brought me vintage jewelry and bags. They just speak to me.
vibes4vintage
@pammalla Welcome, We'd love to have you... I can add your name to our roster today!
pammalla
@vibes4vintage Sure that would be great. I'm not sure how your share group works, but I have been on posh since 2013, so I'm sure I will figure it out quickly. Thank you
vibes4vintage
@pammalla Weoffer 3 groups daily... (Vintage, Jewelry Only, Home Goods) we share 10 items from each closet that signs each day, (NOT the big tag blocks).. great way to enhance exposure and increase followers..

Hi how do you become a member and what do you do? I love most anything that’s old - I have several listings already posted that are from the 60’s and 70’s and starting to go thru my drawers and jewelry and if my kids don’t want I will sell - I’m a bit of a hoarder (well a lot) and I have to really start moving items!! What do you think?thanks!!

vibes4vintage
@monalisamlb hi there and welcome…I will have my hosts add your name to the tag list for Vintage and I’ll be sure to tag you on the next reminder on the Vintage Share Group for today. On any day you wish to sign up you just tag your closet name on that listing. We have two other groups … Jewelry and HomeGoods… they each share both old an new (Vintage is the only one that shares only Vintage fashion). Would you like to join either or both of those groups too?
msneverending1
@vibes4vintage can you please add me to your Vintage jewelry share group. Thank you.
missstrudel
Agree! Thank you for this post. I have a similar one.
heatherctay
Please add me to your list. @heatherctay Thank You!
vibes4vintage
@heatherctay Hello and welcome! Looks like your closet is good to go for our "Home Goods" Group! We'll add you today...!
heatherctay
How can I participate? Do I share from the members closets below?
vibes4vintage
@heatherctay Our share groups are offered daily, with a new, separate post. Members that want to participate "sign-in", usually 14-20. go to the top of our closet to see the 3 groups and browse today's Home Goods post to see how it works...
isabellarobin
@vibes4vintage Hi guys. I have missed everyone, but can you please remove me from all tagging lists? I just haven't being sharing in groups very much lately. Thank you!
vibes4vintage
@isabellarobin Of course... Hope all is going great! remember you can always drop in!
isabellarobin
@vibes4vintage Thank you! I will drop in one day soon, I hope.!~ :)

I LOVE this!! It drives me crazy that so many adults genuinely believe they can put the word vintage in front of any product they’re selling like it’s a magical secret to sell every product known to man! My favorite is “Brand New With Tags Vintage ___” or “NWT Vintage Necklace- I just bought it and haven’t worn it so decided to sell” LOL Vintage is not the adjective used to describe any item ever manufactured!🖤
vibes4vintage
@slauren1420 truly one of life's little mysteries... 👻

@vibes4vintage I can not find the post for The Vintage Share for 11/12 so that I can finish sharing today’s Vintage Share & document that I have completed My Shares for today. I can see the posted finished list, but when I select it says Unable To Load. Will you please help so that I can finish sharing. Thank you.
vibes4vintage
@msneverending1 sounds like a minor POSH glitch... go back and retry in a few minutes...
msneverending1
@vibes4vintage well I went back to try to share, it still says unable to load from the Comments Section. I just wrote down the closets that I still needed to share. All Vintage Closets shared, but I am still unable to pull up the post for The Vintage share for 11/12 so that I can document that I shared today. Thank you, Carol
msneverending1
@vibes4vintage Finally, I was able to pull The Vintage Share post for 11/12 Tuesday. Thank you for your help
msneverending1
