sac80 @haley_banks I'm sorry for the delay - hard to photograph with one hand in low light! Here are some extra photos with me wearing the ring. The squares are a 1-inch scale. Feel free to ask if I can help with anything else - no pressure to purchase either way. I don't want you to feel pressured.

vixbux You’re killing me with the new photos. I ❤️ your ring! I just think I’d kill it with water like the others I had.

sac80 @vixbux I'm sorry lol, not trying to torture you! I wonder if there is a way to get a definitive answer. The person who sold it to me sold the ring as natural, but I absolutely don't want to make any statements I can't back up 100%. What happened with the water? A split or discoloration?

sac80 @vixbux Dichroic glass might be another option for you to get that shimmer. Opal, even real, natural, high quality opal, is soft. I'd been thinking about a way to get a similar look with less fragility (or at least, easier and inexpensive to replace). If I find something similar will let you know! I wish I could make you a piece from scratch, but music and textiles are more my specialty.

sac80 @vixbux This link is great. Did your opal have a black or hidden back? If this is correct, doublets would be black behind the stone, or set to conceal the back. http://www.opalsdownunder.com.au/learn-about-opals/introductory/opal-facts-myths

sac80 @vixbux Darn that character limit! I also know an excellent local jeweler. His work is expensive, but reasonable for custom work. He grew up in France and has been super honest with me when things need repair or if he is not comfortable fixing it. For this piece, he said he isn't comfortable changing a setting that has had adhesive

sac80 used behind it (to help keep it in place). Happy send you his shop - but if you go that route, buy from him directly, not through me. It's expensive and I don't want to be a barrier between people and custom, ethical work.

vixbux @sac80 It lost its color play. It became sort of dull in places.

sac80 @vixbux No problem! Based on your description and the article, it looks like opals with dark backs are the risky ones. I'm learning too - thanks!!

sac80 @taffyaleas Thanks for writing! Here is the post with more pictures on the finger, etc. I took these photos at night, in a hurry, so the color isn't great, but good for seeing the size. I'm currently double checking the feasible limit on resizing gold - I can't remember if gold or silver is the difficult one. Just a few moments and I'll send more data.
