Manganese Glass Sapphire Blue Vintage Fire-King UV Reactive

This Fire-King individual casserole dish was manufactured by Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation between 1940 and 1950. It is in excellent condition. The sapphire blue clear glass has a faint blue hue, and is UV reactive turning purple under black light. The Philbe floral design is embossed on the lid, and bowl. Used for serving individual portions, this little oven-safe serving dish measures 4 3/4” wide, and 2 1/4” high. This piece of glass reacts and turns purple under ultraviolet, or black light because of the presence manganese dioxide which was used during manufacturing to remove color from the glass. This unique characteristic adds an extraordinary quirk to this otherwise ordinary piece of vintage glass. Please see all photos for condition. This is vintage, has been pre-loved and comes “as is”.
