Protect with silicone based leather/suede protector. (Do not apply protectant to fur.) These boots are incredibly well made, cosy and toasty warm. I wore them out of my home just once on bitterly cold day in Chicago. I hate to part with these boots, but I just don't really leave the house anymore. I'm a covid long hauler and winter is when I hibernate. *Manitobah Mukluks uses the byproducts of the food industry. They ethically source materials that would otherwise be considered "waste" by meat producers and make them into moccasins and mukluks that will last for years following in the traditions of their ancestors. This product was produced in Winnipeg, Manitoba by elders and artisans in Indigenous communities as well as in a Fair-Trade factory in Vietnam.

ikbbelle @wjgonza These are not considered a waterproof design. I believe you are looking for the Snowy Owl version. These can absolutely be worn in the snow, but freestanding water and rain would compromise them. I'm going to reply again with information from their website. Thank you for your question!

ikbbelle @wjgonza Adult mukluks are constructed with natural suede and leather which are not sealed and not considered waterproof. We recommend treating them with a leather/suede protector to help with water resistance and general protection. These natural materials need to breathe in order to be effective in extreme cold. Indigenous people have been surviving in the coldest climates for thousands of years using this very wisdom.

ikbbelle @wjgonza I hope all of that helps you make the right decision for your particular situation. I know the reviews for these boots in Chicago and Minnesota are really good and that's why I purchased them. I'm just not out and about in the winter and they belong with someone who will use them to their full potential.

ikbbelle @wjgonza These are the Kanada mukluks. They come up closer to the calf than the Snowy Owl. These are not considered waterproof. They are best for extreme cold, but dry days... walking overtop ice or snow that has already been compacted.

ikbbelle @wjgonza You can add a waterproof conditioner to the suede but it could impact how well they perform in extreme cold. The Kanada mukluks are no longer available on the US site.
