For your consideration is an heirloom quality, circa 1955 Margot De Taxco necklace and bracelet set created in a hard-to-find bumble bee yellow and black enamel on sterling silver. Both pieces are hallmarked with the Eagle 16 stamp, Margot de Taxco, Taxco, Mexico, and 5533A (the design number).
This piece is a convertible piece. Though designed as a necklace and bracelet set, the two pieces connect as one 21 ½ inch length necklace, allowing for a more elegant affect.
Both necklace and bracelet are in perfect vintage condition, without any cracks or missing pieces of enamel to mar the surface; the black is glossy and smooth, and the yellow is a deep, rich hue. The silver is in perfect condition, without any cracks, bends or repairs. However, keep in mind that this vintage jewelry is sixty years old, and has the feel of a well-cared for antiques It has been gently polished with a silver cloth only to protect the work, but not enough to damage the warm, natural silver patina.
Margo van Voorhies Carr had an eye for beauty, blending the Japanese aesthetic with Art Deco and the motifs that she found in the pre-Columbian art of Mexico, and she did this in a unique and elegant way that is timeless. Margot’s motto was “As the stars are to the night, so are jewels to the woman”, a sympathy that holds true even now, sixty years later.
The bracelet no longer has its original safety chain.
