Marjorie Baer Silver Plated Brass Handmade Industrial Earrings

These Marjorie Baer earrings are silver plated with a brass base. The posts are surgical steel and their jewelry is nickel free. To prevent tarnish, they apply a clear lacquer to every piece. However, I was trying to determine how these earrings showed silver on one side against a tarnished silver on the other. My guess is that the tarnished side was intentionally left without lacquer to create this artistic expression of aged silver against its original counterpart. Not to get too philosophical, but while our culture typically embraces youth, aging has its own beauty. For instance, a dead tree that no longer has leaves still standing in the earth is quite breathtaking. I actually prefer the tarnished side of these earrings because they are currently brown and blue and with time will continue to age to black. In beautifully aged condition, each earring is stamped Baer S.F. *Handmade in the San Francisco Bay area.
