I'm actually looking into my Native American heritage and only come so far as to finding out that my family derives from the Abenaki tribe. mrsshundeen @superastro Hey girl! So nice to meet another Native! So happy to hear such excitement! I love being Native even though people say I look more Asian or Hawaiian! Lol Anyways as for becoming official with us, we have CIB (Certificates of Indian Blood)! We get those on the reservation at our assigned Chapter house, we usually have to bring our parents CIB's and other paperwork including social security card etc. That is how it is done on the Navajo reservation. Maybe try looking online for a tribal office or something to start out??! Let me know how things go or if I can help in some way! Hugs!

I have a much smaller percentage of Native American blood in me than you, but my family always tells me a cool story passed down 4 generations: When the Cherokees attacked Osage at Pasuga in the 1800's, my family ran. Most were captured & killed, except for one who was a small boy - the Cherokee spared his life & raised him as one of their own.

I think the boarding schools my parents went to did a lot of damage. So I was mostly raised using english. I think my parents thought it more inportant to learn english instead.

mrsshundeen @kynicole89 I know right, sad. I love that my husband understands more Navajo then I do. He actually use to only speak Navajo when he was a toddler. When he started to go to school they even needed a translator, so cool! Maybe you should research your tribe more, you night find something interesting? 😉
