Hello, thanks for checking out my page. I love animals, especially parrots, they are my passion and the joy of my life. If you have any cool items with parrots - tag me! grindegirl Dream bird ?!! 😂 they are loud.. I have a Moluccan cockatoo named Maui Bird, he’ll be 27 years old in February. A lot of work they are. I never had a small bird ever and someone asked me to adopt him when he was almost 9 because they couldn’t keep him. It’s a 2 year old for the rest of my life and his life.😂 Like you I have 1 bird, 1 cat and 2 dogs... My ZOO❤️❤️❤️

makinmagic @grindegirl yes, I know all that :D This is exactly the reason out last rescue was an Amazon, not a Cockatoo :D I realize it would be too much work and that they require triple time the attention and effort of any other parrot. But a girl can dream... :)

grindegirl @makinmagic They can be if their throwing a tantrum... I live on 30 acres and had the Sheriff at my house a few years ago because someone thought it was a domestic argument when it was my bird. Sheriff came out to check on me.

grindegirl Plus they do a morning and evening flocking call everyday. Loud... I can block it out but when people are Over they ask me how I can live with him being loud. He’s not loud continually all day but it’s more so like he’s showing off when strangers are around or when he’s throwing a tantrum.

I just use natural daylight light bulbs (https://www.lowes.com/pd/GE-48-in-Medium-Bi-pin-T8-6500-K-Daylight-Fluorescent-Light-Bulb-2-pack/1000258419), a scotch taped them to an old rolling rack, so they shine from both sides on an item. I have a white and black sheets backdrop, then I delete the background in photoshop. My camera is 12 year old Kodak Easy Share that I love.

makinmagic @ladyhawke124 hey, is your Amazon hot tempered all the time or only while in breeding mode? Mine is only 1.5 years old and he is THE SWEETEST bird of all bunch, has never ever even tried to bite anyone, super cuddly. I wonder if he will change as he grows up.

ladyhawke124 @makinmagic He was terribly sweet till he was around 2 or 3, then he became increasingly more aggressive, even to the point of flying at me and attacking. He's @ 20 now, and a few years back I had no choice but to leave him in his cage I'd always left him out on a swing before that). I took an online course to solve the situation, but the yellow-headed Amazons are by nature very aggressive. I'm told that around age 20 their aggression (its all about male hormones) starts to decline.

ladyhawke124 @makinmagic Till then I pet him through the bars on his cage and tell him I still love him.... as for the Too, she's the sweetest thing ever (they're not called "Velcro birds" for no reason...they will stay on your shoulder & snuggle & say "I love you" 24/7 if you let them. It's true that their high-pitched scream can break glass! Mine does it a couple times a day when she wants attention, but I'm used to it and can let it go).

I barely have enough time to care for all the birds I have now, it's basically my full time job. I probably spend couple hours each day just cleaning the house and cages :) No time and space for a Too.

lakeluregirl I love your cover photo! I have an African Grey that's 24. We've had her since she was 15 weeks old. She only has 3 toes on each foot . The breeder said he wasn't sure whether she was born like that or one of the parents bit them off. It hasn't affected her in any way. She says some of the funniest things.

makinmagic @hollygolitley wow, 36? What kind of cockatoo? Did you have her the entire time? How's her health at that age? My amazon had a bad accident yesterday (plunged into rough ground), which completely scraped all skin on his back and top wings down to flesh, had to have stitches and clean-up done under general anesthesia today. He is ok, sleeping now, but I have never been so sick worrying in my entire life. I hope your birdies are well :)

hollygolitley @makinmagic Oh my gosh that sounds horrible! I hope your baby will be fine just keep warm and out of drafts. Casanova is a medium white sulfur crested Eleonora cockatoo. He was a-year-old when I got him from a local pet store owner he was a hand fed baby. He was my absolute love bug and would actually travel with me until he reached his 20s also known as the terrible twos.

hollygolitley @makinmagic About 20 years ago he had emergency surgery because one of his talons got caught on his cage. 14 stitches and several hours later he was home and boy was that fun as hard as it was to wrap and keep it protected within 30 seconds he would’ve had it ripped off and I had to redo it!
