If you're into good hearted and nice people who look a little kooky on the outside but will always say hello back with a smile then you'll get along with the people here(: also if you're down for hiking in a gorgeous ass forest to get to class and beaches on the weekend or downtown filled with thrift stores and yummy cafés and restaurants then you're gonna be in love and never wanna leave (like me).

victoriaflora @bbyelvis We have amazing science programs especially for bio and psych, classes are iffy to get into and at a pretty solid effort level but it's a UC so that's expected lol. Very activisty if you're also down for that too along with so many opportunities to volunteer it can get overwhelming haha. But everything is so worth it.

victoriaflora @bamp0wz00m haha omg what a coincidence. Well if you're interested in psych ucsc is definitely a solid choice or consideration. I was looking at schools based on psych programs and was between ucsc and university of central Florida and I saw that ucsc offered me a lot more aid and the psych advisor came as a rep to my school and really convinced me Santa Cruz could offer me a lot.(:

Lol it's incredibly popular as a major but to compensate for that the psych department always makes sure you're involved even if you don't necessarily have a psych class on your schedule. Like they literally send you emails saying what's left as an open class and what events/programs you can do and learn from.

bamp0wz00m @victoriaflora ugggh I've been looking at uc Berkeley and ucla and others but i wasn't really sure and I am super nervous i might not get in because I did a very terrible thing and waited to take my sat and now its do or die and i have no clue if i will be able to get a score high enough.

victoriaflora @bamp0wz00m I applied to berkeley and didn't get in even though I had amazing grades, hella extracurriculars, and was president of a few different clubs. So I say study for that ish and do anything you can to boost your app but if you don't get in legit DONT SWEAT lol

victoriaflora @bamp0wz00m A lot of good people with good backgrounds unfortunately don't get accepted to schools like berk or ucla but they are just so incredibly popular it's understandable. Ucsc isn't at the same exact level as them but we actually do get compared a lot to berkeley because we both have the same values so not too shabby(;

victoriaflora @bbyelvis yayy! I have a couple friends in different aspects of the arts program here. I took a theatre arts class and absolutely loved it. I hear that we have great facilities for artists and my friend is an art major and she loves it. I know for sure we rock at digital art because ucsc is really good for digital science and computer science. Haha I hope my insight isn't too vague. I don't know a ton because I'm more involved in the social sciences part of the school lol.(:

victoriaflora @bbyelvis Yeah like by colleges I mean the housing residence communities that they have you live in your first year. Some names are like Cowell college, Kresge college, Crowne college, etc. because if you haven't done that part already I suggest putting Porter college as your first preference because they're known for being the fine arts and music residential community.

victoriaflora @bbyelvis As for the community of Santa Cruz itself, it's so rad and fun and a community seriously concerned for one another. Now if I'm being honest, it can sometimes feel like a bubble because it's not extremely close to big bustling cities, and there's not that many chain stores/franchises. And campus itself is an extreme bubble if you don't put in the effort to go into town.

victoriaflora @bbyelvis So if you wanna be really part of the community of Santa Cruz the city and not so much the campus then I suggest looking into volunteer opportunities off campus which is super easy because the school has not only a ton of resource fairs around school but you can just google different places in sc and sign your email up to join. I have a ton of various organizations in my roster if you want any, just let me know what kind of thing you'd wanna do.(:
