cottagegifts Hi Heather! We are probably related, if any of your great-grandparents were related to August & Susie Herde of Holton KS or Billings OK. Or maybe you are married to a Herde. It’s kind of a rare name so I look up the name here from time to time.

heather_herde @pluswear Herde is my maiden name. My great-grandfather's name was Werner but his middle name was August. They were originally from Switzerland and come over in the 20s residing in Connecticut. Might be a cousin of his though! I'll have to do some more research.

cottagegifts @heather_herde My family was from Koppernïg Silesia (became Poland at WW2). My ancestors emigrated to the US in early 1800s. The family that stayed suffered quite a bit in WW2 & aftermath. So probably not as directly related as I thought we might be. Still cool though!

cottagegifts @heather_herde I found his obituary just now. Sounds like a great man! Your grandfather was in the South Pacific in WW2 & my father was too, but my father was on the island of Saipan after the US had control of the island already, and your grandfather was on a ship.
