lizznorth @pavery777 There are a few tests to identify if an item is elephant ivory or something else (including using a hot needle to see if it burns or melts, which would cause damage and I would not recommend) but I think the best would be to look for crosshatching called schreger lines. They are most easily seen anywhere cuts are made at right angles to the grain.

lizznorth @pavery777 But generally, it is kind of hard to tell. I found a necklace at a thrift shop and even though it looked like real elephant ivory, I could not be certain because I do not know it's history. Also, you can always take an item to a gemologist who would be able to ID it. The items you bought are from my parent's 80s stock ... they are in pristine condition. Thank you for your purchase and I hope to see you again soon ~ I think you will see that they are beautiful specimens. :)

pavery777 @lizznorth Hey Liz thanks for accepting my offer for the earrings, your parents collection is awesome. I love Ivory but only pre ban and hate the way the elephants were slaughtered for the Ivory. I support a fund called Ivory Ella you may be aware of it. Proceeds go to saving the elephants, anyway thanks again. Buy the way do you have any rings in Ivory with or w/o the gold filament, that are size 6.5 to 7 or 7.5??? Please advise , your closet is spectacular🙋👏👏👏👏👏🎊🎉😘

lizznorth @pavery777 That website is so cute!! I love it. The elephants pictured are so adorable! Even back then before the ban, there was paperwork pertaining to the legal sale of the ivory my parents had to show when importing from Hong Kong. Fortunately, my parents kept good records lol. About the rings, I do have 1 ring that you may be interested in. It is about size 7. I will list it later today. :)

ellaminnope I am so excited that I found you! I collect pre-ban ivory jewelry, especially Art Deco pieces. I usually buy 2-3 pieces a year but I think this year with the laws changing I'll probably go ahead and buy 5-6 pieces. I'm shopping around now to make my purchases in August.
