ladyjayne225 Hi Nisha. I’m not sure what receipt you are talking about. I don’t post any kind of receipts, nor do I send any out when shipping. I used to include a packing slip, but I don’t do that anymore. It takes too much time and the buyer can print their own order confirmation slip online if they want. So let me know more about your question. Thanks, Jane.

nishamalek @ladyjayne225 I mean the sales receipt. When I purchase a purse from the store and want to sell it on Poshmark later, should I post a picture of the sales receipt? Or just include it with the bag when someone purchases it?
Jan 02Reply
ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 @nishamalek okay, this is my opinion. You do whatever you want to do obviously. But No indeed, neither. Assuming you are selling it for a profit, do you really want the buyer to know where they could have gone to purchase it themselves for less money?? And if you post it in your listing nobody is going to buy it from you when they can get it cheaper elsewhere. I may be wrong, but I’ve never heard of anybody selling on Poshmark doing that.

ladyjayne225 Buyers on Poshmark understand that they are buying Preowned items or new with tags items at a price agreeable to buyer and seller. That’s why there are offers and bundles. This is not like you would need the receipt for a new item’s warranty, or a gift you might want to return to a store. Sales on Poshmark are final

ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 So again, assuming you are selling for a profit, what you paid for the item is known as “cost of goods sold”, and the receipt is support for that on your taxes. Talk with whoever does your taxes about that. But I don’t include my receipts to buyers. Does that help?

ladyjayne225 One more thing, I don’t sell extremely expensive jewelry or designer purses, but if you did, there may be an occasion where you might disclose it to the buyer to prove what you paid. Say you have a diamond broach that you purchased for $4,000 and now you are offering to sell it for $3,000 because you have had it and worn it for a while and now want something else.
Jan 02Reply
ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 In that case, if you get an interested prospective buyer, you may want to prove to them what you paid for it. But I still would not post the receipt or make it generally available to the general public.

ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 I don’t deal in those items because it is very hard to tell whether an item is a fake or not. I don’t want to run the risk is selling something for a large amount of money that is later identified as a fake, and then I’m in trouble. But that’s just me. You have to be VERY careful.

nishamalek @ladyjayne225 I understand. I’m very new to selling on Poshmark. I have my receipt from Barney’s so I know that shouldn’t be an issue. Also, I like that Poshmark will authentic a product if it’s over $500.

ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 @nishamalek This is true. I just don’t do it because I have heard of too many things that can go wrong. It sounds like you have one designer purse you want to sell and you are not going to focus on that as your business. If you purchased the purse yourself directly from the official retailer that’s good. I was referring to buying and selling them as a business. And getting them from wholesale sources.
Jan 02Reply
ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 Posh will take it to authenticate before you sell, but what if Posh determines it to be a fake. You are out that money. That’s what I’m talking about. If your situation is the first one, then you have no worries. And if you are careful and know what you are doing, you can make that your business. A lot of people do. But Every couple of weeks Posh asks Ambassadors such as myself to review listings that have been reported as fakes.
Jan 02Reply
ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 You could buy them in good faith and have a receipt, but later they could possibly be identified as a fake unbeknownst to you, and you are stuck.
Jan 02Reply
ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 Doing product reviews has made me aware of how much faking goes on right under my nose. I’m just saying.,,
Jan 02Reply
ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 I’m not trying to discourage you, just letting you know what could happen in certain situations. Before Posh started asking me to review items, I was naive to this. My answer would have been totally different. But I can tell you it does go on even on here.
Jan 02Reply
nishamalek
nishamalek @ladyjayne225 I appreciate your advice. I’m only looking to sell a couple designer bags. I have original receipts from the store. I don’t think I have the patience to start a business on here, but definitely respect those that do and are honest.
Jan 02Reply
ladyjayne225
ladyjayne225 @nishamalek Good luck. I’m retired and I use profits from here to supplement my income part time. I do like the social part of it. And I don’t have any pressure. I can do as much as I like when I like. Also the fees are very reasonable, and the items I list can stay on there as long as I like or until they sell. So it’s fun to me. Just be careful dealing with people. It’s hard to judge when you do not have face to face contact with people. Most people are honest, but you never know.
