dovajean I have noticed that the homeless are spreading out now. In OKC they stayed in certain areas but we are seeing small group camps all over the place. We now have 2 Police Officers that just check on the homeless - they say to help. We may have to move our office because the homeless camp behind our office and ask our customers for money etc..they come in and get coffee and look for food. Our window washer is homeless but he leaves the people and employees alone.

dovajean It so sad..they are getting younger and younger. Strung out on meth. Good luck with your work. I can only imagine NYC and the cost of living to begin with.

queenmonica @dovajean it's really sad :( most of the homeless people i help have severe mental issues and are homeless because the government shut down hundreds of mental facilities across the US and especially in NYC. So people who really need mental help are left to fend for themselves. It breaks my heart :(

queenmonica @dovajean NYC has a unique issue because it's the only city that has a city law obligating the city to provide housing for everyone. So there are lots of shelters but many are very unsafe or always full. Most homeless people I meet in NY have intense mental problems but a small percentage are drug addicts who also need help.

dovajean @queenmonica Mental Health is so difficult to find when you have family support and money to begin with. I would be so scared in a shelter. We have them - but they are hideous. I would rather live under the bridge next to our office as well.

queenmonica @dovajean It's incredible sad. I wish I could do more to help them. Right now I'm trying to save up so I can buy a pair of shoes for one man who comes to the soup kitchen with bags on his feet. Breaks my heart.

dovajean And then we have people driving new cars parking behind the fast food restaurants who push a wheelchair and cardboard signs to the intersection corner - plop down and beg all day. Its hard to know who to help.

queenmonica @dovajean I don't worry about that. There will always be a small percentage of people taking advantage of other's generosity but I can't risk not helping someone who really needs the help.
