Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859-1923 AD, born in Lausanne, Switzerland), a French Art Nouveau painter and printmaker who loved cats, as portrayed in many of his art works. In 1898, he published an illustrated book Des Chats: Dessins Sans Paroles (English title: Cats: Pictures without Words). The most famous in the book is this playful black cat. Steinlen is also well known for his posters for Le Chat Noir a Paris Nightclub.
