Mid 20th-Century Petite Lacquered Chinese Bamboo & Rattan Two-Tier Wedding Basket Take a look at this petite lacquered two-tier beauty! The frame and stationary curved handle is made from split rattan. The basket does separate into two round woven boxes. The lidded upper box lifts off to reveal the lower one. The box bases are made from bamboo wood, while basketry is handwoven rattan woven in an over and under weave. The top tier box has a removable lid which displays a basket weave pattern on the underside. Chinese symbols are handwoven into the basketry portions. Brass tacks add a decorative accent to the lower three prong handles. Structurally in excellent condition with little to no visible wear. Highly lacquered finish also adds a great deal of strength. Overall, it measures 8.5”× 6.25 x 5.5” H/W/D. The lower box interior 2½" x 5" H/D; top box interior 1½"× 5¼"H/D; weight 7 oz.; color is a rich auburn brown with red undertones. It does have its original label which states "Made in the People's Republic of China along with an assortment of Chinese symbols (see photo).
