This bag is BEAUTIFUL and super collectable. It's Moon Bags designed by artist Patricia Smith in Milwaukee, WI. This one was made in 1980, so it's one of the older ones. (see photo of tag and sticker).
Besides being so interesting looking, the great thing about these is that the front plate can be changed out to change up the look of your bag. The bag itself has hidden velcro that wraps through the front plate and easily unwraps to change it out. You could even add just a plain strap/chain or, carry it as a clutch.
The bag itself is black leather with a needlepoint front in grey and mauve.
The front plate is in shades of mauve, butterscotch, taupe and brow. It has a gold chain attached; a lot of these don't! So it can be worn as a crossbody.
Bag snaps close, with an interior zip pocket and what looks to be a black taffeta lining.
Approx. Measurements:
12" wide
10.5" high
3" deep at base
1.5 deep at top
18" chain drop
Condition:
EUC! Some light wear due to age, but nothing glaring at all.
"Moon Bags were introduced in the late 1970s and were characterized by being (most commonly) medium-sized and in the shape of a clutch with a large enamel or lacquer 'plate' attached to the top. The outstanding feature that made it a "Moon Bag" was its limited run of hand painted motifs on each plate. These plates could be interchangeable with others, which gave the wearer creative license to change the look of the bag."
