Murano 1960s Retro Orange & Sky Blue Sommerso Venetian Glass Swan or Duck Figurine. This 1950/60's Venetian glass figurine made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy is a stunning combination of orange and sky blue glass encased in clear glass, using the renowned Venetian sommerso technique. It is in very good condition with a few issues consistent with age. Very tip of the tail may have chipped off. Around base edge has tiny fleabites. One side has tiny light scratches. Couple tiny air bubbles are noted. Base is polished. The expertise of the work and coloring of this beautiful hand blown Murano glass swan or duck is a treasure to look at and admire. Measures approx 5 1/4" T x 4" at widest point x 2" deep. Weight 14 oz. The sommerso (Italian for "submerged") technique was originally developed in the 1930's by Carlo Scarpa at Venini & Co. The technique of creating two or more layers of contrasting glass without the colours mixing together. The outermost layer is often clear.
