Hey fellow Poshers, I am a mother to an autistic son, Nickolas, who is 10 years old. I am trying to raise money to be able to pay for his hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which is not covered by insurance. This therapy has been proven to help kids with Autism; calming them down, bringing them out of their world somewhat and even speaking a few sentences. I am asking each of you to visit his fundraising page at: http://www.gofundme.com/an01hk and if there is anything anyone can do, we would be so happy

pamperedmolly I too am a mom of a terrific autistic son who is 36yrs. It's been a learning adventure and love. I've learned more from him than I feel I've ever taught him. Hugs to you from upstate NY.

secannon1975 @correll42 thank you so much for the compliment regarding my son. Wow, it's amazing that I found a couple of people on here with autistic kids. They are so amazing but can be such a handful at times. Does your child experience melt downs? Mine does and it makes it hard to go places and do any type of family outings. Good to meet you!

secannon1975 @pamperedmolly wow, 36 year old autistic child. I couldn't agree more with you about learning so much more from them each and every day. Is your son verbal? Mine just repeats words, wears diapers, drinks from only 1 special cup and has the cognitive ability of a 3 year old......I wouldn't change anything for the world! It's great to meet you!

correll42 @secannon1975 yes my son does have meltdowns it has improved over time. But summer vacation is causing regression. It's been a long hard road but us moms know our heart leads the way. I taught my son basic signs then words. He didn't speak till around 5. Picture exchange and visual schedule can help a lot because it's very difficult to deal with the unexpected. Is your son very rigid with routine? I bet he has a passionate interest too. I parent trained in in ABA it's really a big help. correll.42@gmail.com email me any time . Nice to meet you

pamperedmolly My son wears diapers due to IBS and lactose allergy. Toilets most of the time. He speaks as needed I guess is a good way to say it. He used to be very echolalic but not much now. He is very aware of everything and everything. Dresses, feeds and helps out himself. If I could I would email u a pic of him. Kuddos to us loving moms. Hugs

secannon1975 @krlewis25 awww, thank you so much! He is a sweetheart. How is your daughter doing? When was she diagnosed? I think God gives us these precious children because he knows strong women like us can love them so much and take care of them to the best of our abilities. I have a 14 year old son as well and he is his brother's protector. I would love to see a picture of your precious daughter, I'm sure she's gorgeous!!!

krlewis25 @secannon1975 Her name is Brittain like Great Britain. She was diagnosed 2 yrs ago. It took 3 yrs to get it. It was the most frustrating process of my life. She is doing great now that we have a school that is familiar with autism. Thank you. She is a sweetie pie. I'll post a picture on my page.

secannon1975 @mzscorpio - so far I've met a lot of people on Poshmark who have autistic kids. As my son has grown, I've learned to not sweat the small things we all take for granted and appreciate all of the accomplishments our special children learn to do and can do.

deenanelson
deenanelson Hi, your son is quite the cutie pie! I guess I'm the first grandma of an autistic child to leave a note😍. My grandson Sable is 2 1/2 and is just now starting to be tested for the severity of his autism. This is all so new to me. What amazes me is how many autistic children there are and the number seems to grow in leaps and bounds. Sable is a blonde hair blue eyed angel with a smile that melts my heart. He only says a couple if words and grunts a lot lol! He's adorable and I adore him! I love this site! I have found that no matter the circumstance, none of us are EVER alone! God bless you and you adorable Son with that contagious smile! 🍃💖💕

secannon1975
secannon1975 @deenanelson yep, I agree the numbers of autistic children keeps rising. My son was fine until 2 years of age and then things started happening after his vaccinations. I am not one to blame people for my son's autism, but it's just too damn suspicious to me how he was meeting all of his milestones, completely verbal, almost potty trained to nothing. My husband and I both grieved for a very long time since we thought our child would be normal like our oldest son. It sucks he was taken away from us and I still believe in vaccinations for all children. But if it ever came out how vaccinations caused my son's autism, I would totally jump into that law suit. Anyway, enough about that, I'm really glad to hear you're a proud grandma of a special needs child. All autistic kids are a gift and my husband and I have learned so much from him and not take the small things for granted. People will make rude comments about my son or give him funny looks when he's having an episode or doing his little hand flapping to self stimulate, but I have learned throughout the years to ignore it or let them know they're commenting on a special needs child and google autism to understand what it's all about.....that usually shuts them up. No one messes with this mama bear and her cubs!!

It's hard work with my son and my husband and I have a 14 year old boy too. The crazy thing is my oldest was born 12-1-99 and my youngest 12-5-03, almost 4 years to the day, and also a very expensive December for us.

secannon1975 @aladdinboutique aww, thanks hon! I really appreciate it. He's a keeper, along with our 14 year old. We're just so glad our son is verbal because a lot of autistic kids don't speak at all and don't like to be physically touched, but thank God he loves to cuddle and snuggle.
