If it says made in ITALY or any other country, or if the company listed on it , is not Incolay Studios, then it is NOT Incolay. The word Incolay is a coined word (IN Colored LAYers) and that word is patented. You cannot use this word on something that is not Incolay. There is a marked difference between fake and real Incolay--the weight,feel,smell and sound (of the lid hitting the base.) Now to help you know the difference....All real Incolay boxes have velvet interiors... All real Incolay boxes have hinged lids...if the lid just sits on the base and has no velvet , then 99% of the time its fake. If it does have a hinge and its thin flimsy metal that's been screwed on and looks gold plated, it's a fake. Incolay studios uses heavy brass hinges and they are glued on.(once in awhile, on very huge boxes, they used screws) If the Incolay box is a hexagon shape, it's a fake. Incolay studios never made that shape except for one with a teddy bear on it , one with a rocking horse on it, and one with a doll on it (but all have hinges) If the box has metal trim or a metal base, then it is just a box with a cameo on top , not an Incolay box. Now ..what i mean by fake, is that many companies tried to copy Incolay's PA
