Hi All! I’m TJ! Below is a brief summary of my doll making journey. Enjoy! My discovery of our attic was the beginning of my enduring passion for dolls. When I was no older than 5, my Grandma who lived with us, placed a ladder against my parents’ bedroom wall & opened a ceiling door, revealing another room. It was a shock to me, since I had no clue it had existed, or had ever seen or heard of attics. But what she brought down from the small hidden room was just as delightful: four textile dolls, elaborately adorned & overflowing with culturally rich charms. 2 were vintage silk souvenir Indian wedding dolls. The other 2 also appeared to be vintage silk souvenir dolls- only they weren’t a pair, but instead were each a lady: one wearing a kimono of Japan & the other a hanbok of Korea. My fascination grew throughout my childhood as I had dolls of my own & admired many from picture books: the Pinny series by Peter Firmin, Carolina’s Courage illustrated by Nora S. Unwin. I spent hours flipping through the pages of a doll making book by better homes & gardens titled, “Country Dolls” - dreaming of making my own. Now in my 30s I’ve brought my dream to life, so that you can enjoy my dream with me! In my adulthood some doll makers that rekindled my love for dolls and have inspired me to pursue this dream are: Margeaux Davis & Megumi Todd.
