What is a Jefferson Cup used for?
A Jefferson Cup is a small, shallow drinking vessel traditionally used for serving wine or spirits. In 1810, Thomas Jefferson commissioned a Virginia silversmith to craft eight tumblers from silver cups he inherited from his friend and teacher, George Wythe. The silver tumblers remained at Monticello for the rest of Jefferson's life and were a regular fixture on his dining table.
Jefferson Cups are often used today as decorative items, awards, or keepsakes, symbolizing hospitality, and American history.
Note - one cup has surface marks as shown. They should polish out.
