Original folk scarf from the Hungarian village of Szek (Sic in Romanian), in Transylvania, Romania. Szek is well known for the preservation of its traditional folk dress, music, and dance.
Black lightweight wool. Half of the scarf is hand embroidered with red flowers and green leaves—as is common in authentic village folk dress, the sections of a piece of clothing which are not seen when worn are not decorated or are made with cheaper material. Here, the section of the scarf that would not be seen when folded over is not embroidered.
Szeki women have a distinctive style for wearing their headscarves, which includes making a peak at the front center, as shown. This scarf is rather thin for holding its shape as a headscarf, and could also be worn under a vest with the fringe showing at the shoulders.
Tied fringe on all sides
Measures approx. 30.5 x 32 + 5.5 fringe
The only issue I see is a hole approx. 1/8”, very difficult to see.
