NWOT and modified Soft Surroundings navy/white midi dress with side shirring

I ordered this dress online from soft surroundings, thinking it would be a cute summer dress for me. It is a size petite medium, and I was shocked when I put it on to see that it was about 6 inches too long for me, even if I wore it as a maxi (I am 5’3”) So I decided to hem it myself into more of a midi dress. It is fully lined down to knee length, and the slit on the side that is left after hemming is approximately 8 1/2 inches. Even with the shorter length, it just doesn’t fit me right. The part I cut off must of had the care tag on it, because I can’t find it. It’s a very stretchy comfortable cotton jersey material. As you can see, my sewing machine didn’t always zag when it was zigzagging. I doubt if anyone will be looking that closely at the hem anyway. But I hope someone can get some use out of it.
