The puff sleeves provide protection from the sun and the billowy fabric is contrasted with the structured cut of the bodice. The bodice is sewn with lines like a corset but without any boning or stifling structure. The smocking in the back allows for a more generous fit as the fabric has no stretch. It is lined so it's not see through, though I would double check that in bright light just to make sure there are no unintentional wardrobe malfunctions! I wish this top fit but I needed a small rather than an extra small.
