This gorgeous limited edition print is professionally framed in oak with an overall size measuring 13” x 13”. The diameter of the circular print itself is 6”. There is a 1/2” border, then it is double matted in a blue/green then a cream color mat. This is really inspirational piece. It is timely with the about to be released Killers of the Flower Moon movie. Unfortunately, there is a scratch on the left side of the glass approximately 2” long. The oak frame also has some minor scratches. See the pics. Also, one of the spacers has slid down from its original placement but it doesn’t show when the picture is hung. This is truly a beautiful piece of artwork depicting an inspirational message for our time. Thank you for looking!
Jean Bales (1946–2003) was an Iowa Native American painter, printmaker.
A member of the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, Jean Elaine Myers Bales was born on December 25, 1946, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. In 1967, she received her bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts. She also attended the Institute of San Miguel Allende in Mexico.
Bales signed her work "J. Bales" early in her career to hide her gender. She also served as the official historian of the Iowa Tribe, and won more than one hundred awards for her work. Many of her paintings depict historical and cultural scenes in the lives of Iowa women; examples can be found in numerous public and private collections.
Bales died on December 8, 2003, in Carney, Oklahoma.
