This time period began approximately 145 million years ago and ended 66 million years ago. That's around the time the dinosaurs disappeared. Septarian nodules are made up primarily of three different minerals. The yellow centre is calcite, the brown lines are aragonite or siderite and the outer shell is limestone. (Please excuse the bizarre coloring of my hands! I have Raynaud’s Syndrome, therefore my hands are almost always a different color - typically red and/or purple - and the colder it gets, the more extreme they are!
