Each Test Run Project 3.0 is made from leftover surplus materials at the end of a season’s production run, and according to New Balance “no two pairs of TRP3 shoes are identical.” Constructed from a mix of mesh, ripstop, leather and nylon fabrics, the sneakers are assembled with multi-colored panels for a bold look. The top of the tongue comes with a thick pull tab stamped with “MADE with SURPLUS” over a bed of batted nylon. Sliding underneath the tab are bright-colored ripstop straps that begin at the collars and cross over the forefoot. Smooth leather panels appear along the heel counter and toe cap, while breathable mesh textiles are placed at the sidewalls and toe box. All of these details sit atop a marble-patterned Vibram Ecostep sole, which reuses at least 30% of scrap rubber from Vibram’s own production.
