Welsh Love Spoon
The custom of giving a love spoon started in Wales sometime in the 17th century. Young men would carve a spoon to give to a young woman while courting. The spoon would often be carved with symbols of devotion. This is how the term "spooning" (cuddling) arose. Today, love spoons are not just given to lovers, but as friendship, engagement, wedding, and anniversary gifts. They can be used as spoons, or, displayed as decoration.
