Ngäbe-Buglé Indigenous People In the mountains of western Panamá, across 2,500 square miles (6,475 kilometers), live the largest indigenous comarca (or region) in Panamá—the Ngäbe-Buglé people. The comarca was formed in 1997 to provide these indigenous people autonomy of land previously belonging to the Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, and Veraguas provinces.
